When the Instructions Don’t Make Sense

God’s instructions don’t always come with explanations.
Sometimes He just says, “Go.”
And it’s our job to obey even when it makes no sense.

Noah built a boat… with no rain in sight.
Joshua marched around walls… instead of attacking them.
Abraham left his home… without knowing his destination.

Over and over, Scripture shows us something wild:
God often gives instructions that sound illogical.

Why?

Because obedience is not about understanding
It’s about trust.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

When God tells you to do something that doesn’t line up with how the world operates, your logic will scream:
“This isn’t normal.”
“This doesn’t make sense.”
“What will people think?”

But God isn’t looking for your logic.
He’s looking for your yes.

Sometimes God will:

Ask you to forgive someone who never apologized

Tell you to sow when your budget is tight

Lead you to start something with no support

Tell you to walk away while others are sprinting ahead

And in those moments, you have a choice:
Lean into the unknown or lean on your own understanding.

The truth is:
God’s instructions aren’t confusing. They’re just higher than ours.

“My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” — Isaiah 55:8

Reflection

Is God asking you to do something that doesn’t make sense in the natural?
What would it look like to obey even before you understand?

Closing Prayer

Lord, I surrender my need to understand every step.
Help me obey even when I don’t see the full picture.
Let faith rise in the fog. Let my “yes” echo louder than my fear.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
