When Obedience Looks Crazy: The March Around Jericho
What if God asked you to do something that made no sense at all?
Would you obey or wait until it sounded more logical?
Sometimes, breakthrough comes wrapped in instructions that look ridiculous.
The instructions were simple… and wild.
Walk. Don’t speak. Do it for six days.
Then on the seventh day shout.
That’s what God told Joshua and the Israelites in Joshua 6.
They were facing a walled city, heavily fortified, impossible to conquer in the natural.
But God didn’t tell them to fight He told them to walk.
To trust.
To obey.
To look foolish on purpose.
And they did.
Imagine what it felt like marching around Jericho in silence while people watched, mocked, or wondered, “What are they even doing?”
There were no swords drawn. No ladders climbed. Just faith on display in the form of obedience that didn’t make sense.
But that’s what radical faith looks like.
“By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been encircled for seven days.” — Hebrews 11:30
We often want logical obedience the kind that makes sense to others and looks responsible on paper.
But God often gives faith instructions the kind that stretch our pride, quiet our mouths, and test our endurance.
Sometimes God says:
- Walk when you’d rather talk back.
- Stay silent when you want to prove your point.
- Forgive when the world says get even.
- Keep showing up when no one applauds.
Jericho’s walls didn’t fall because of strategy.
They fell because obedience invited God into the battle.
And when God enters, walls fall.
Reflection
Has God ever asked you to do something that didn’t make sense?
What “Jericho walls” are you walking around right now praying, waiting, and believing?
Can you trust Him even when it looks foolish?
Closing Prayer
Lord, I want to obey You even when it doesn’t make sense to others or even to me.
Give me the faith to walk when I don’t see progress.
Teach me to trust Your timing and Your ways.
I believe You can still make walls fall.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
