The Job Pays the Bills. The Gift Builds the Kingdom.
Let’s clear something up. Just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean you’re called to it. Some of us are sitting in meetings God never told us to attend, clocking into places He only meant to fund us temporarily.
There’s a difference between what pays you and what God planted in you. Your job is not your identity. That title on your LinkedIn? Temporary. That nudge in your gut when you’re doing what you love? Eternal. That’s your gift talking.
Your Gift Isn’t Optional You were born with a gift.
It was packed in you like luggage before you ever took your first breath. And no, it’s not always glamorous or loud it’s often quiet, consistent, and sacred. People ask you for help with it. You do it naturally. And when you don’t do it, you feel that nudge… that sense that you’re sitting on something holy and ignoring the call. God didn’t send you to Earth to chase direct deposits. He sent you to solve a problem.
The Job Is Rent. The Gift Is Legacy.
Look I’m not knocking the job. God can use it. Jobs give structure, discipline, and often the seed money for your bigger assignment. But let’s be real: The job pays the bills. The gift builds the Kingdom. Don’t confuse the paycheck with your purpose. Don’t confuse promotion at work with elevation in the spirit. The job is what they hired you for. The gift is what Heaven assigned you for.
How to Know You’re Operating in Your Gift
Here’s your sign: You feel energized after doing it, not drained. Time flies. You feel present when you’re doing it. People are impacted. Lives shift. Conversations linger. And most of all you feel peace. Not hype. Peace. Your gift doesn’t just serve others. It nourishes you too.
Why We Get Stuck at the Job
It’s scary, right? Stepping away from a guaranteed paycheck to walk in something that feels invisible at first? Here’s the truth: God doesn’t require you to quit tomorrow. But He does expect obedience. Start small. Serve your gift after hours. Practice consistency over clout. The same God who gave it to you will open doors for it but not while you’re hiding it under the comfort of “just getting by.”
God Isn’t Backing Your Resume He’s Backing Your Gift
Let that sink in. Heaven isn’t clapping for your credentials. Heaven is watching for obedience. Remember: God promoted David, not because of his slingshot skills, but because he stewarded private victories with a lion and a bear. He’ll promote you when He knows you’re ready to carry it with honor.
You weren’t created just to make a living. You were created to make a difference. Your gift is your lane. Stay in it. Honor it. And let God breathe on it.
Father,
I thank You for creating me with intention.
I know I wasn’t born just to chase checks or titles I was born to carry purpose.
Forgive me for the times I traded my gift for comfort.
I ask You to stir up what You placed in me before the world handed me expectations.
Give me courage to honor the gift, wisdom to steward it, and faith to walk in it.
Open my eyes to what You’ve truly called me to do not just what I’m trained to do.
Help me trust that obedience is more valuable than security.
I surrender the job if it’s in the way. I surrender my plan if it’s blocking Your path.
Breathe on my gift and show me how to build what glorifies You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
