The Blessing of Moses (Deuteronomy 33)
Moses is at the end of his leadership assignment. Before Israel crosses into the Promised Land, he speaks a final blessing over the people and over the tribes. This is a “covering” moment. Moses is not just saying goodbye. He is reminding them who their God is and what kind of future God has prepared for them. Deuteronomy 33 matters because it shows that God sends His people forward with blessing, not fear.
The Words Spoken (selected references from Deuteronomy 33)
Moses opens by exalting God and His love for His people (33:3). Then he speaks strength, protection, and provision.
Over Israel (33:27)
“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…”
Over Joseph (33:13–17)
He speaks of the “precious things of heaven” and the “precious things of the earth” (blessing and abundance).
Over Asher (33:24–25)
He speaks favor, strength, and endurance: “As your days, so shall your strength be.”
What this blessing reveals about God
God is a covering. He goes before His people, and He holds them up underneath. He does not send you into the next season unsupported. Deuteronomy 33 reveals God as refuge, protector, and provider. It also shows that God cares about tribes, families, and callings. He speaks uniquely to each, but His hand is on the whole nation.
What this blessing speaks over us today
If you are stepping into a new season, this chapter is a reminder that God’s arms are still underneath you. You don’t have to be perfect to be carried. You don’t have to have every answer to be led. The same God who covered Israel is covering you. And like Moses, you can speak blessing over your household instead of worry.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You are my refuge. Thank You that underneath me are Your everlasting arms. As I step forward into what You have for me, cover me with Your presence. Strengthen me for the journey. Provide what I need, remove what is not from You, and establish my steps in peace. Bless my household, my work, and my calling. I will not move forward in fear, because You go with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Declarations
God is my refuge, and I am not alone.
Underneath me are the everlasting arms of God.
I am strengthened for every assignment God has given me.
Provision will meet me in the place of obedience.
As my days are, so shall my strength be.
