A Prayer to Forgive

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things God will ever ask of you.

Not because you do not love Him. Not because you do not know the scripture. But because some wounds run so deep that the idea of releasing the person who caused them feels less like obedience and more like injustice.

If that is where you are today this prayer was written for you.

"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13

A Prayer to Forgive

Lord, I'll be honest. Forgiveness doesn't feel natural right now.

But I know that unforgiveness is a prison, and You hold the key.

I choose by faith and not by feeling to release this person into Your hands.

I refuse to let their actions hold authority over my peace.

Heal the wound beneath the offense.

Uproot every root of bitterness before it poisons what You're building in me.

As You have forgiven me of much, help me forgive.

Amen.

If this prayer spoke to something in you, you are not alone. Forgiveness is not a one time decision. It is a daily practice of choosing God's way over your own pain.

My devotional 7 Days of Freedom for the Woman Still Bound by Her Past walks you through exactly this.

The difference between guilt and shame. What forgiving yourself actually requires. And how to step into the freedom that has been yours since the cross.
