A Prayer for True Freedom
Today the country celebrates independence. Fireworks, flags, cookouts, a day set aside to remember what it means to be free. But there is a freedom that no declaration or holiday can give you, the kind that only comes from being fully known and fully loved by God.
You can be free on paper and still be bound on the inside. Bound by guilt you have not released, by people's opinions you have not stopped chasing, by a past you keep replaying like it still has power over you. True freedom is not the absence of a cage. It is the presence of Christ, who already broke the one you have been living in.
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1
A Prayer for True Freedom
God, thank You for freedom that costs nothing on my end because it already cost everything on Yours.
I have been carrying things I do not have to carry. Shame that was already paid for. Guilt that was already forgiven. Fear that was never mine to hold onto in the first place.
Set me free today, not just from circumstances, but from the chains I cannot always see.
Free me from the need to explain myself to everyone.
Free me from performing for approval instead of resting in Your acceptance.
Free me from the version of my past that keeps trying to define my future.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. I want to walk in that liberty every day, not just admire it from a distance.
I am not who I used to be. I am free indeed.
